Amazon EC2

Still has its place, but Fargate removes the need most of the time.

EC2 gives you full control over the instance — operating system, networking, storage. That control comes with operational overhead: patching, monitoring, capacity planning. For most workloads, Fargate eliminates that burden.

EC2 still makes sense for GPU workloads, specialised networking requirements, or applications that need persistent local storage. But it should be a conscious choice, not the default.
