Llama
Development has stalled. DeepSeek and Qwen are more interesting.
Meta's Llama models represent the strongest open-weight LLMs available. Self-hosting eliminates API costs and keeps data on-premises — compelling for regulated industries and high-volume applications.
The gap with frontier models is still significant for complex reasoning and coding tasks. Running inference at scale requires GPU infrastructure and ML operations expertise. For most teams, API-based models from Anthropic or OpenAI are more practical. Llama is worth assessing for specific use cases where data sovereignty or cost at scale are primary concerns.
