Capable but expensive. The burn rate gives pause.
GPT-4 and its successors are capable models with strong performance across coding, analysis, and generation tasks. The API is well-documented and the ecosystem is the largest in the LLM space.
The cost is the concern. Token pricing for the most capable models makes high-volume production use expensive. For applications where per-request cost matters — chatbots, document processing at scale — the economics need careful evaluation against alternatives like Claude that offer comparable quality.
